With several tasting rooms along Main St., Murphys is the center of Calaveras wine country. There are antique shops, restaurants, Murphys' Creek park for picnicing, and the historic Murphys Hotel. Mercer Caverns lies a mile out of town. Ironstone, Stevenot, and Chatom wineries are a few minutes drive away.
