Bay Area Wildlife: Monarch Butterflies

Every year, beginning in late October, thousands of of monarch butterflies make the trek from Oregon, Washington and western Canada south along the coast to the South Bay Area.

In March, the butterflies take to the air again for their final migration.

The butterflies are mostly at the Monarch Sanctuary off of Ridge Road. Coming down Highway 68, which is Forest Avenue, take Lighthouse Avenue left towards the Lighthouse. Turn left at Ridge Road. Park the car and walk down the easement to the Sanctuary.
