Hawk Hill
The biggest collection of birds of prey you will find anywhere in this part of the country is right here in the Bay Area.

Raptors -- hawks, falcons, osprey an occasional bald eagle or golden eagle -- circle the air above the Marin Headlands between late August and early December. Many are migrating south from Alaska to spend the winter in Argentina or Mexico. Others will stay right here.

If you're not sure what you are looking at, volunteers are often on hand to help identify a passing raptor. When you visit the Headlands, you might also stop by the Marine Mammal Center, where seals and sea lions are taken to recuperate from some bloody bout with the sea.

Hawk Hill is on the Marin Headlands. Take the Alexander Avenue exit off Highway 101 in Sausalito and follow the signs to the:
Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
