Bay Area Skate Spots: Lake Merritt Loop
Skate Spots:
Lake Merritt Loop

This precious lake, just east of downtown Oakland, provides a relaxing urban retreat for many recreational activities.

Distance:
3+ miles

Recommended For:
All. Some stretches have rough pavement

Route:
One can follow the perimeter of the Lake from either direction. On the north side, the lakeside path becomes rough at times, making the direct route along Grand Ave. or the service road behind Children's Fairy Land preferable for beginners.

Notes:
Lights above the trail allow possibilities for careful night-skating. For stairs or trick skating, one can take the south tunnel to play at the Kaiser Center Auditorium.

Directions:
Off I-880 in Oakland going South, take the Jackson St. exit and continue to Oak St. Turn left on Oak and follow to the Lake. Going North on I-880 take the Oak St. exit and turn right until you hit the Lake. Lake Merritt is close to 3 Oakland Bart stations: Lake Merritt, 12th St. and 19th St.
