Description
In springtime, few destinations can match Russian Ridge for sheer flower power. Time a visit for the wildflower peak and you'll likely see great swaths of purple, gold, blue, orange, and white on display throughout undulating emerald green grassland. You don't have to hike far to get to these meadows; a 15 minute walk from the trailhead on Ridge Trail delivers you to the best area. Although spring is the most popular season at Russian Ridge, the preserve, dominated by gentle hills covered with grassland, is pleasant all year round. In winter you might see newts toddling along the trails in the woods, and in autumn knee-high grass on the rolling hills dries to an "amber waves of grain" effect.
