Mile 0.0: Begin at the Rodeo Beach parking lot. Start walking back on the side of Bunker Road, on a path running along the lagoon. You might catch a glimpse of pelicans, egrets, and ducks. Mile 0.6: Cross Bunker Road where the street curves right, and pick up the beginning of signed Miwok Trail. The wide trail, initially flat, heads into Gerbode Valley. Mile 1.0: Junction. Stay left. Mile 1.1: Junction. Stay left. Miwok Trail begins to climb, winding through grassland and coastal scrub. Keep an eye on the skies over Gerbode Valley, for a variety of raptors. Mile 1.9: Crest and junction. Turn left onto Wolf Ridge Trail. A broad spectrum of plants line the trail as it ascends, sometimes steeply. Great views north. Mile 2.5: Junction and end of Wolf Ridge Trail. You can ascend further on a paved road to the left, but the views are pretty wonderful from here. When ready, turn right onto Coastal Trail. The crumbling paved road descends through coastal scrub. A major landslide a few years broke the road into two distinct parts. Follow the signs through a reroute on narrow dirt paths and stairs. Mile 3.4: Junction. Old Bunker Road breaks off to the left. Turn right to remain on Coastal Trail. At a moderately easy grade, the trail lingers near the coastline, descending back to the trailhead. Mile 4.3: Back at the parking lot.
