Mile 0.0: Begin at the edge of the parking lot and start climbing on Hidden Valley Trail. Stay to the left at two connective splits. The broad dirt path ascends at a consistent, moderately steep grade, through grassland, with some patches of coast live oak, sagebrush, and poison oak. Be sure to close all cattle gates you encounter. Mile 1.4: Junction with Peak Meadow Trail. Continue straight (left) on Hidden Valley Trail. Mile 2.1: At a flat valley beneath the rocky summit, Moore Grove Trail heads right. Continue left on Hidden Valley Trail. Mile 2.2: Junction with a path to Ohlone College. Stay to the right. Mile 2.3: Cattle gate and junction. Turn right onto Eagle Trail. Mile 2.4: Peak Trail heads to the summit. Turn right. This is the steepest section, so take some time to enjoy views over your shoulder to the east as you ascend. The trail cuts left and continues uphill, on a narrow rocky path. Mile 2.8: The rocky summit. On a clear day there are long views in every direction. A strange scope-like location finder points out bay area landmarks. When it's windy, you probably won't want to linger. Retrace your steps back to the trailhead. Mile 5.6: Back at the parking lot.
