Mile 0.0: Start at the edge of the parking lot, in front of the school. Skirt the school building on a path to the left, then emerge in a clearing. Mile 0.1: Veer left at an unsigned junction. A few steps later, at the edge of the woods, Deer Park Trail begins. The path ascends through grassland and pockets of woods. Look for a small but pretty waterfall in winter, on the left side of the trail. Mile 1.0: Deer Park Trail ends at a signed junction with Worn Springs Fire Road. Great views from here. Turn right. Mile 1.0: Almost immediately, bear right onto undersigned Buckeye Trail. The tiny path cuts across a grassy hillside dotted with its namesake trees. Mile 1.2: Buckeye Trail ends at an unsigned junction with Worn Springs Fire Road. Turn right. The wide trail ascends, with a few madrones and coast live oaks on the left. Nice views back to the north. Mile 1.3: Turn right on Yolanda Trail. The narrow path slices through woods at an easy grade. There's a short break in the tree cover where Yolanda sweeps across a grassy hillside, but then the trail heads back into the woods. Mile 2.1: Yolanda reaches "Six Points," a multi-trail junction. Take the second trail to the right, Bald Hill Trail, signed, "to Five Corners." Just past the junction there are fine views of Tam's 3 peaks. Bald Hill Trail descends past a few redwoods, then through a forest dominated by madrone. Mile 2.4: Stay to the right on Bald Hill Trail as a connector trail veers left. The lower section of Bald Hill Trail is badly eroded and in February 2002 was flagged for rerouting. Mile 2.7: Five Corners Junction. Take the second path counterclockwise to the right, Junction Trail. After a short downhill segment of steps, the trail adopts a mostly level pace as it angles around the base of a grassy hillside. Mile 2.9: Junction Trail crosses a creek on a small footbridge, then ends at Deer Park Fire Road. Turn left. The busy fire road is lined with California bay, huge old oaks, and madrone. Mile 3.2: Deer Park Fire Road ends at a gate at the edge of the school field. Cross the field, and return to the trailhead. Mile 3.4: Back at the trailhead.
