Directions to Trailhead

Description
Deer Park is a convenient starting point for a variety of short and medium-length Mount Tam hikes. Picnic tables and restrooms make this a kid-friendly trailhead, where families can hike for a few hours then lunch under the shade of towering oaks. The vegetation and terrain range from gently sloping grassy hillsides to steeper ridges forested with madrone, oaks, buckeye, Douglas fir, and redwood. These low eastern slopes of Tam are renowned for spring wildflowers; look for blossoms as early as February. Wildlife is plentiful, and you might see deer, turkeys, and hawks, or even rarely spotted mountain residents such as bobcat and coyote.
