Course lowdown
Tilden Park Golf Course, a hilly beaut, had to be literally blasted from forest in the wooded Tilden Regional Park by a befuddled William Park Bell in 1935.
This cramped creation is the Bay Area's quirkiest, most rustic municipal track. And, as a result of its proximity to the Bay Bridge, one of the most populated. But when the stars are correctly aligned and for some reason the crowds aren't out, the hillsides seem to glisten and you're truly at peace in nature. Tilden's huge wildlife population comes out to play and golf becomes sublime.
Tilden is a tight, challenging golf course stuck into a small space and features holes with personality, uniquely individual challenges whose weaknesses must be learned. The good news here is that Tilden is very playable from every tee, with yardage from the men's tees (whites) at slightly over 5,800 yards.
