Course lowdown
It doesn't get much simpler than this. Beautifully manicured, straight-ahead, no nonsense, long and challenging golf awaits you at the pastoral, rurally set Sonoma.
The course, which was originally designed by Sam Whiting in 1926 but was re-tinkered by Robert Muir Graves in 1990, has undergone many ownership conglomerates and name changes (Sonoma National, Sonoma Golf Club) but still delivers a fair and sturdy test set in an oak-studded hillside wine country valley for a reasonable upscale price.
At 7,069 from the tips and over 6,600 from the whites, you'll need to hit it pretty far, but most of the near-perfect fairways give generous girth. The greens, when right, are slicker than most in the Bay Area. It's perennially voted one of Northern California's top public tracks.
