Course lowdown
Get used to the greens very quickly.

Remember to hit the hell out of every putt on these rarely mown patches of lawn that have holes in the ground and flagsticks in those holes.

Do that the second you arrive at this course and you'll be in for an enjoyable, if not altogether serious round of golf. Quite simply, it's one of the most spectacular settings for a golf course in the world, situated high above Baker Beach and the Golden Gate with a dramatic full view of the bridge snaking down from the Marin Headlands.

But it's not serious golf. The par is 68, many of the par-4s are under 300 yards, and the course is poorly maintained, which explains the relatively low fees. The best time to go out and play Lincoln is late afternoon on a summer weekday. You'll get out and the sun will be setting over the Golden Gate when you reach the ridiculously long 240-something par-3 with the best view in the City.

FYI: The course, which hosts over 100,000 rounds a year, was the childhood playground of PGA legend and colorful commentator Johnny Miller.
