North Bay: Two Lakes Loop

BayInsider contributor Location: Marin County
Category: Dirt ride
Distance: 9.1 Miles
Elevation Gain/Loss: 1100 feet
Difficulty: Moderate
Riding Time: 1 - 1½ Hours
This is a good ride. The accent is long, but not too steep. And after you reach Lake Lagunitas, it is either all flat or downhill. Almost the entire ride is on fireroads and a short distance on a paved road. This is a good ride for a intermediate rider. You will need your MTB legs to make it up to the second lake, for it is a grind. But the ride along Lake Lagunitas makes the ride worthwhile. It is beautiful.
Directions
From Highway 101, take the San Anselmo exit called Sir Francis Drake and head west. Go around 4 miles or so to San Anselmo. Turn left at Lagunitas Road, and follow it all the way to the end, about 1½ miles. The last part of this road turns to dirt as it enters Phoenix Lake Park. There is a small parking lot at the end of the road Park there. It is free.
