Mt. Tamalpais/Muir Woods Loop turn-by-turn mileagelog

0.0 Richardson Bridge, North Sausalito. You can park under the freeway overpass. Hop on the street and head under the overpass for .5 miles

0.5 Follow the road right over the creek.

0.6 Mount Tam Junction. Turn left at the light. Road narrows and climb begins in about 1 mile. Traffic is sometimes heavy, so be careful and stay to the right.

3.3 False summit. Turn right at junction with Panoramic Highway.

4.1 Four Corners Junction. Go straight towards Mt Tam.(Right takes you to Mill Valley, Left to Muir Woods). Road climbs intermittently with a few very steep sections.

5.7 Mountain Home Inn on the right. Road winds and climbs up the southern shoulder of Mt Tam. One of the most beautiful sections of the route.

8.5 Top of climb at 1500' elevation. Water and bathrooms at the campground on the left. Go straight to the descent to Stinson Beach. It's a beautiful road and an exhilarating descent. (Turning right at the junction will take you on a 4-mile climb to the summit of Mt Tam).

12.0 Highway 1. Turn left, heading south. Highway 1 will meander along the coast for about 5 miles. If you brought a camera, you'll be stopping every quarter mile. (Stinson Beach is 1/4 mile to the right, and makes a great rest stop.)

17.0 Descent into Frank's Valley.

18.1 Left at the junction on Muir Woods Road.

20.7 Begin climb back up to Four Corners.

22.0 Four Corners. You can go right and backtrack to Marin City, or go straight to descend into Mill Valley, where you turn right on Miller Avenue and head back to Richardson Bridge.
