Palomares and Niles Canyon Loop turn-by-turn mileagelog
0.0 Start at the corner of Mission Blvd. and Niles Canyon Road in Freemont and head up Niles Canyon Road. Niles Canyon can be a busy road, especially during commute hours. But there is a decent shoulder and you'll only be on it for a couple of miles.
2.1 Turn left on Palomares road and start climbing. Don't let the profile deceive you, it's not a very steep climb. It's probably somewhere around 5-6%.
6.8 This is the summit of Palomares Road, and the high point of the ride. You might want to stop and look around, or put on a wind breaker for the decent if it's cool out. The decent is a good one and you can reach an honest to God 50mph is you want too. It's not super steep, but the turns aren't very sharp and you can really let it run if you know the road.
11.9 Turn right at the "T" intersection.
12.3 Turn right again onto the I-580 frontage road. The road climbs gradually before another fast descent. Once again 50mph is a distinct possibility.
17.5 Make yet another right turn on Foothill Road and head south through Dublin and Pleasanton.
25.6 Turn left on Kilkare Road and cross the railroad tracks. There's a small market here if you need to stock up on supplies.
25.75 Turn right on Niles Canyon Road. Once again, Niles Canyon can be fairly busy. Though the shoulder is pretty wide, it is very advisable to stay single file on this road.
30.0 Passing Palomares Road, you've only got two miles to go.
32.0 Finished! Time for something to quench your thirst.
