Old La Honda/Page Mill Road Loop turn-by-turn mileagelog

0.0 Start at the Page Mill Road park and ride just off of Highway 280 and head up Page Mill Road.

.25 Turn right on Arastadero Road. Arastadero Road can be fairly busy at times and it's not that wide, so riding single file would be an excellent idea here.

2.2 Turn left on Alpine road. This is an extremely popular cycling road and there are probably at least 10 other rides that take riders over Alpine road. Be sure to wave to the other riders or people will start complaining about elitist road riders again. :)

3.35 Turn right on Portola Valley Road. Be sure to STOP at the STOP SIGN. This is a favorite place for cyclists to get tickets for running the stop sign here. Don't become another victim.

6.25 Okay, the fun's over for now. Turn left onto Old La Honda Road. For the competitive types, your time starts at bridge and finishes at the stop sign at the top, 3.25 miles later. The fastest recorded times are in the low 15's for Mike Murray and around 17:30 for fastest women's time. Anything under 18 minutes for men and about 20 minutes for women is pretty studly. Record attempts are for mutant climber types only.

Also, five-time olympic gold medalist speed skater and former US professional road racing champion Eric Heiden owns a home somewhere on Old La Honda from when he went to Stanford Medical School. Don't you hate to see people with no ambition? :)

9.5 Turn left on Skyline Blvd. If you thought the climbing was over you would be mistaken. The hard part is over, but you've still got another 500 or so vertical feet of climbing left on Skyline. Watch out for organ donors (motorcyclists) in leather, riding at warp speed.

Enjoy the views of the Bay as you ride!

15.2 Turn left on Page Mill Road. This is the part we've been waiting for. After the initial speed zone through the Los Trancos Open Space Preserve where you can his speeds of 50mph if you like the road gets twistier. For the most part you never really have a chance to get up too much speed for the corner, but be careful. There are a few section on the descent where you'll get a short STEEP straight away followed by a hairpin corner. These present no problem unless you're not paying attention and let your speed get away.

24.0 All good things must come to an end. The park and ride will be on your right, just before Highway 280.
