South Bay: Coyote Ridge Loop
by Conan Tigard, BayInsider contributor

Coyote Ridge Loop Location: Santa Clara County
Category: Dirt ride
Distance: 8.7 Miles
Elevation Gain/Loss: 1800 ft.
Difficulty: Moderate
Riding Time: 1¼ - 1¾ Hours
Directions

Coyote Ridge Loop is in Fremont Old OSP and is a moderate ride mostly on fireroads, but with some fun single-track. The ride is not technically difficult, mostly being fairly smooth trails — but if it's wet, the mud has a lot of clay in it and really sticks to the tires. The climb back out from the ranger station is long, but not very difficult.

Turn-by-turn mileage log

Directions
Directions: In San Jose, take 280 to Hwy 85. Take 85 south. Take the Stevens Creek exit. Turn Right and then immediately left onto Bubb Rd. Turn right on Regnart. Go about 1 mile and look for the gate on the left side of the road. There is parking for only a few vehicles.

Comment
The entire ride is less then 9 miles. Because of the slipperiness of the trails, it took us just slightly over 1½ hours of ride time. The total time on the ride was about 2½ hours with the chain trouble and the stops at the Visitor Center and Maisie's Peak, which has a beautiful view. The ride is not very difficult and it probably a lot of fun when the trail isn't quite as wet. We were fairly well covered with mud splatter. It is not worth doing this ride when the trail is muddy.
