South Bay: Old Cabin Loop
by Conan Tigard
BayInsider contributor

Location: Santa Cruz County
Category: Dirt ride
Distance: 8.66 Miles
Elevation Gain/Loss: 1400 feet
Difficulty: Moderate
Riding Time: 1 - 1½ Hours
Directions

This is a fun ride that can be quite hot in the summer, but very nice in the winter. The ride consists of fireroads and singletrack. One piece of single track is unmarked and may be closed, see Mile 4.24. This singletrack winds it way the Redwood trees and is a load of fun. Some of the singletrack is fairly technical, but most of the ride is not.

Directions
Wilder Ranch State Park is located about 5 miles north of Highway 17 on Highway 1 above Santa Cruz. If you don't want to pay the parking fee, there is a place to park along Highway 1 on the west side of the highway south of the entrance to the park. Ride up to the ranger kiosk. At the little ranger station, you can get a free map. The map is great and I really suggest that you get one.
