North Bay Beaches
Drakes Beach | Bolinas Beach | Muir Beach | Stinson Beach
Few coastlines compare to the one you'll find just north of the Golden Gate. There's an almost surreal quality to the beachfronts, where coastal mountains slope gently to a sandy beach and rocky cliffs plunge into the surf. Often, the rugged, heavily-wooded terrain is more reminiscent of the Sierra than of the run-of-the-mill "beach."
But beaches they are -- with all the usual business. Sunbathing, surfing, boardsailing, and kayaking are all suited to the North Bay's coast, and the beach towns nearby stock all the comfort and services (except the notoriously xenophobic Bolinas).
We could yammer at length about what these great places are like. But there's no substitute for being there. These guides should give you the info you need to get yourself up north and see for yourself.
